The novel city concept, Virtual Cologne, is being developed following our paradigms. The underlying model is easily adaptable to a broad field of applications from corporate business to role playing worlds.

The idea of Virtual Cologne as a city concept is so far unique in virtual worlds. Contrary to many corporate online presences that are emerging in virtual worlds, the virtual Cologne project is based on the cooperation of diverse city planning components. In an interconnected region, culture, community, creativity and businesses are united as a whole. As in the real city, this connection leads to the whole being more than the sum of its parts so that result will have almost metropolitan qualities.

The virtual Cologne avoids two often problematic extremes: the first is designs that are
completely unreal and only rely on the special features of virtual words, and the second is simply directly translating what is already there into a new medium. The Virtual Cologne project takes the middle path by respecting reality and its traditions and also employing all the breath-taking new features in an implementation suited for virtual worlds. The balance allows for diversity and creativity and by these means the life of a real city to transfer optimally into the new online worlds.
